Domestic violence offences, also known as intimate partner violence offences, includes any criminal offence committed against both current and former spouses, common-law partners, and dating partners. These offences can include assault, sexual assault, mischief of property, criminal harassment, and other offences. In almost every case, individuals charged with a domestic violence offence will be placed on bail conditions by the police or court prohibiting any contact with their intimate partner until the charges are resolved. This situation often forces them to leave their homes and families for an extended period, causing significant disruptions in personal relationships and work.
